Right now I am running Mobile 1 100% synthetic oil 40:1. I love the oil, but also have heard great things about Amsoil Synthetic 2-Cycle Oil, 100:1 Pre-Mix. Any opinions about the oil and running it at 100:1 ?

Bit risky for trail & error. The problem is when will you know it worked or not? Let me know when the small end bearing collaps. Dont do it!!!

Get the series 2000 amsoil. That is designed at 50:1.

That is what myself and my friends use. Great stuff! Cost a bit more, but we use amsoil in all our vehicles for extended drains so we know the results are excellent!

If you buy it, get the gallon jug. If you get a preferred membership, it cost you $20 a year but you get dealer prices off the net! Really consider it if you are purchasing $100 or more of stuff cause you will save that $20 on the first order.

The 100:1 I use in the boat as that is what the motor is designed for plus it has oil injection so it is always getting the proper amount of oil. The bikes are not oil injected, so always error on the side of caution there.

I've been using amsoil at 32:1 mix ( I like to be on the safe side) and it seems to work good for me. 'course I've only had the bike for two and a half weeks now.

Matt90GT, I knew there was a reason why I liked you. I am running Amsoil S2000 @ 40:1. I didn't want to go with the 50:1 like the bottle recommends. Too lean IMHO. Was running 32:1. So far this stuff is great. I'll let you know more on the annual tear down.

And yes I have a KDX 200 that I run 90:1. Very little carbon on the KIPS and runs great. Havent fouled a plug yet either.
Now just need some good weather to go riding.

Haven't torn down the top end and probably won't for a while. Upon pulling the chamber off and looking up into the exhaust port, the carbon buildup is minimal. No since in doing extra wrenching.

You have to remember that 40:1 is leaner than a 50:1 oil mixture. You have more parts oil per fuel or more oil/less fuel thus leaning things out. It is opposite of what you think about air/fuel ratios.

I run Amsoil 2000 at 50:1. Not all 2-stroke oils are created equal. So a generic 2s oil 32:1 may equivalent to Amsoil at 50:1. Perhaps it has something to do with the dispersant qualities and concentration of the synthetic composition. And that maybe the reason it runs so clean.

Now correct me if I am wrong, cause I know someone will. At 32:1 this is 4oz. of oil. At 50:1 this is 2.56oz. of oil. This is using 128oz. in a gallon divided by oil ratio. If this is true, which I believe it is, 50:1 is less oil than 40:1 for the same amount of fuel.

Running Belray at 50/1 in both, going to put one on a diet of Amsoil 100/1 mixed at 75/1. If you don't hear from me, it worked OK....

I have used the s2000 for a few uears now in various cycles and jetskis and it is definately the best oil out there. Take a top end apart and it is spotless. Low smoke too. I too run at the 40:1 just to be safe. I wouldn't go any more oil than that. It burns like a wet log if you know what I mean. Its so good 50:1 is probaly ok. The 100:1 stuff will leave deposits like you ain't never seen. Don't use it. RJ yeah its less oil at 50:1. But in turn that leaves you with more fuel going into carb and thus makes air/fuel ratio actually richer.

RJ:
Terms like 'richer' and 'leaner' are generally applied to air/fuel ratios, not premix ratios.

Thus, as matt said, 50:1 is 'richer' than 40:1

Less oil in the fuel is more fuel...so it's 'richer' (air/fuel).

You can look at it either way. That is the problem with these sites, too many know-it-alls. :moon:

Most trials bikes run 80 or 100:1.I was running Amsoil at 80:1 in my KDX,but chickened out and went to 42:1.Cheap insurance.

Sure..you can look at it either way.

Thing is, only one way is correct.

The purpose of words (hopefully) having something to do with communication, it helps to know what relatively unimportant things like 'richer' and 'leaner' mean.

Matt's still correct. I don't know if he's a know-it-all or not. ;)

Wasn't talking about Matt. It is leaner in the fact that there is less oil for the same amount of fuel.

Braahp,

In your posting above you stated "The 100:1 stuff will leave deposits like you ain't never seen. Don't use it." It sounds like you're referring to the non S2000 Amsoil or standard 100:1 and/or injector oil!? Or were you referring to running S2000 at 100:1?
