Well lately I have been wondering if I should switch the front brake and clutch levers with a better lever. Seeing how I am somewhat new to riding and as I start jumping and just going to the track more often. So I was wondering if anyone has experience with the ASV Unbreakable Levers or any of the other aftermarket forged lever brands.

Personally, I just carry extra levers. Those ASV's carry a big price tag, and I can buy a lot of levers for that price.. Besides, often I replace levers because they get sloppy and rattle in the perches, not because they get bent or broken. The ASV design won't prevent this from happening.

That is a good point I never thought that they wouldn't break from craqshing but wear out just from normal use. And After you said that I think that I will just have to stick with the stock ones for now.

Remove the perches, wrap plumber's teflon tape under them, re-install them. Tighten the perches so that they will move if you give 'em a hard whack with the heel of your hand.

That will prevent most - I broke 2 levers in 1 day when I first got my first db, then I did the above and haven't broken any.

So Camstyn.. you must be pretty quick at getting to the truck and installing the new lever in the middle of a moto :)

That's no endorsement, but the "keep extra levers" idea isn't always perfect.

I have ASV levers on my bike and I like them. I am a specialist at crashing and am very good at it! The ASV's have held up extremely well. I also wrap the bars with teflon tape (always have). I used to break levers occassionally even with the teflon tape. But have had good luck with the ASV's. I also like the shape, gives me better feel than the stock levers.

The last 6-8 rides I have either broken or badly bent a lever/s.

I've been buying MSR Dominators, they say they will bend without breaking under most circumstances. Yeah, whatever... I guess I don't ride under most circumstances...

I found some Protaper Aluminum Bark Busters on ebay that I got for $15 w/shipping. I got to put them to the test Saturday, I drove 'em into the ground hard 2 different times. They did the job great, seems like they kept my bars from tweaking more too.

We stumbled across a new company out of MI that makes a "kit" that includes a lever and perch with Adjust on the Fly clutch adjustment, brake lever, and a guarantee not to brake. The kit runs 79 bucks and the levers have little traction dimples on them. Unfortunatley they dont make them for KTM's (which we have) but all late model kx,cr,yz, and rm's and like I said they are said to be guranteed not to brake. Their website was www.owdmx.com

I have their brake lever with the roller bearing at the master cylinder piston contact, very smooth and I also have their clutch lever.Great levers,I have also installed small bearings at the pivots so they operate smooth and will not loosen and rattle.

Good point, I hadn't thought of that. Usually by the time I crash in a moto, I'm tired, and I'm not using the front brake or clutch anymore anyways!

They do look like nice stuff though, I just don't break levers very often.. In fact I've been so lucky to have only broken maybe two levers in the ten years that I've been riding. <knocking on wood> I've replaced way more levers because they get loose/worn out than because they get broken.

Would you please come talk to my kid then because I replace more levers than that on a normal practice day

Well I like the idea of putting teflon tape on the bars under the perches. So I think I'm gonna have to do that no matter what but I think I am gonna replace the levers with the ASV's.

I agree, my ASV levers are life savers. best thing since oversized bars. great investment. even better is that the asv have a 5 year warranty

I've never broken a lever before but I've broken about 4-5 perches in the 1 year I've had my bike. Every time
it snaps right next to one of the bolts even if its just a low speed tip over. I always painstakingly tighten the perch
so it'll give if I hit it with my hand. I guess Sunline just makes a crappy product.

I agree with CO Dan and others on the teflon tape. You should do that to any bike regardless what kind of perch you have. I used to break perches all the time too until I put teflon tape underneath. Also another tip, make sure that your lever doesn't stick out further than the end of the bar. If the lever is longer than the end of the bar, then what do you think is going to take the blow from the fall first? Obviously a weak clutch lever isn't going to be able to support a 200+lbs motorcycle and rider under a crash.
