i went riding today and when i got back i rode it up the street. it seems to be backfiring more than it should. from what i can remember it was backfiring a little before but i notice it more now because im looking for it. it only does it when i downshift and am slowing down. does this mean that it is running too lean? i havent touched the carb or engine since i got it besides to adjust the idle a little. thanks for the help.

Exhaust leaks that can draw cool air into the exhaust system can also cause backfires during decel. Check for loose connections and bad gasket connections in the exhaust. A leaking or poorly seated hot start button can have a simialr effect.
