I took my bike apart the other day and there are slight wear notches in the basket were the friction plates engage. I was wondering if these can be filed away with out messing anything up?

U can file them a little . Makes your clutch work smoother.

DO NOT file a lot off. Atiny amount like a sheet of paper thick.

Reduce the depth of grooves, do not try to eliminate them.

Why? Too much slack between the tangs on the plates and the basket fingers will make for more slop and more impact on the fingers resulting in worsening grooves. This is a stopgap method.

This is why they have hardened baskets available.

I'm thinking of a stormin' norman basket for my RM 250 (has steel inserts)

Comments?

Stormin' norman reworks your old basket to add the steel inserts....cheaper than hinson too.

I'm pretty sure Hinson makes the part. Do not assume because its old there are no parts available. Did you ask your honda dealer? Do not buy a new honda anyway just get a hinson if you must replace.

Do a web search for used parts, check small ads in back of mags advertising used parts( e- bay ,this site, etc)

Just talket to Normans wife....these thin steel inserts are REPLACEABLE.

When the edges are worn you just slide them out..do not even remove the basket !

Lifetime warranty!
