i just bought a '85 rfvc xr200r for $150 thought i got a good deal until i tryed to find the parts i need (crank, main berring), found out i bought a lemon instead, is there a engine that is swapable or close enough that only minor mods are needed? im pretty good with a welder and doing minor fabrication but im not the best, what engine will bolt up or come close, any 1 have a rfvc parts engine for sale other wise.

a honda dealer can't get you the crank? Main bearings can be had from any bearing shop. I rebuilt a 86 xr200 engine a couple of years ago, and while I didn't need a crank, I was able to get every other part I needed with no issues.

the '86 isnt a rfvc model its only a 2 valve the '84 - '85 rfvc model was only made for 2 years it has 4 valves and a 2 carb setup, i think i read some were since i have been all over the internet trying to find parts that the 84 85 is a one peice crank and anything newer is two peice. i just want to swap a engine that is more common and not so problematic anyone have any experience with these rfvc bikes?

An old friend of mine had an '84 200 back in the day, and others had RFVC XR250's and 350's.. I'm no expert on the bikes, but I thought the size and the configuration of the RFVC XR200 crankcases was similar to the 'regular' XR200, which I think are also shared with the XL200 and XR & XL185. I would look to those models for a replacement engine (after taking some measurements to ensure compatability).

Also, some of the companies that may be familiar with the old XRs are Powroll and Al Baker's XRs Only. Would not hurt to give them a call.

Hi all, anyone found any good sources? I need a piston kit for my a friends 84 xr200 and haven't found one. I'll check honda as they may still have them. Any luck on finding out whether the 250 bolts straight in?

Powroll can rebuild your crank for you.

There were two XR200s in 1984. A 2 valve dual shock XR200 and an RFVC monoshock XR200R. The 84 XR200 uses the same engine as the 86+ XR200s. The 84 XR200R shares a frame with the 84 XR250.

Those 4 valve 200's can be OK bikes. They were faster than the 2 valve version and had better suspension. I think you are better off fixing the engine you have, which is similar to the 250 of the same year.
