This question has probably been asked a million times, and i searched for it, but found nothing specifically related. Basically, I'm looking into a first bike, a honda xr100 i found for pretty cheap. But before I buy it, i would like to know,
-can a 100cc take me (160 lbs. with tank of gas, 36" inseam) through ultra loose florida dune dust-sand?
-I've heard honda xr100 parts for like 1997 are the same engine parts as 2005, true or false?

i dont think it will. you'd be better off getting an motocross style bike and im sure it would be more fun. im 150-155 lbs and i ride an 82 KDX 175 and it hauls me around fine.. mind you im not in florida sand either.

You're way too big for that bike, especially in sand.

You're going to need a much bigger, more powerful bike to haul you around, especially in sand.

yeah, thant's kinda what im thinking. I guess ill go for a different bike, a yamaha yz125cc, but it's from 1980. I bet it's really hard to get parts for a bike that old?

Most parts are still available, particularly commonly replaced items. Some parts aren't available new, but can be had used from bike wreckers. Parts availability shouldn't be a problem, unless you expect them to be in stock, they'll have to order them in, for anything more common than spark plugs and fluids, but can easily get them for you in most cases.

I suggest you get something bigger. I had a xr 100 and i was only like 110 pounds and it still couldn't get me up over sandy hills. Needless to say it was an exellent trail bike for me.

my friend has a crf 100 ( hes selling it)( the crf has just a bit of difference in suspension) and hes 110lbs. and he hates it. you need to go to cycletrader.com and search for another bike thats bigger and more powerful( in sand, its harder to accelerate compared to dirt or street). it would also help if we knew your height and age.
