Ouch!, Better conditioning and more hydration the day before should help. The 5 beers probably didn't help as they will contribute to dehydration but a beer or two shouldn't hurt with lots of water. potassium in the form of bananas helps. Aerobic fitness is the key to controlling lactic acid buidup imo. Some take a couple of regular asprin before and after the ride and say it helps. Lots of water!
