I bought a 1984 XR500 from a friend of mine. It has a small oil leak from the crank at the front sprocket. Any suggestions on fixing this would be appreciated. I'm hoping it's easier than replacing some internal seal that requires splitting the cases.

Thanks in adavance...

I'm not familiar with that model bike, but there is a seal around the countershaft.  With any luck, it is removable from the outside like the kTm countershaft seals are.  It is no big deal if that is the case.  Hopefully someone with knowledge of this particular model will post soon.

You really have to split the cases to do it correctly because the honda seal ghas a retainer ring obn it that fits in a slot but you may be able topull theold one out and epoxy the new one in if youre slick. Alotof work to split that case though.
