lean out the air screw and/or use a smaller pilot jet. at 800 feet elev., 70 degree F temp and 50:1 mix, my jetting is 27.5-30 pj, 1-1/2 as, 2nd groove from the top with 59? needle and 390-400 main. plug is perfect brown with little to no spooge.

Thanks for that, problem is he has gone down one to a 32 idle and the local shops have said not to go smaller or risk melting a piston.I will pass this on.

I always found the 32.5 pilot to be right on my 02 and 04 and probably my 05. I have a 30 in my 05 now and that is too lean while the 35 is too rich. This is with the #3 slide, 60 needle on the 2nd top clip and a 370 main @ 40:1. This worked well enough everywhere I rode from sea level to 1000+ meters and from just below freezing to 30 degrees c. Dunno what that is in ye olde temp and altitude measurements :). Never fouled a plug with that jetting.

How long since it's had a top end? I think I remember needing leaner jetting when the top end was past its use by...
