Oh man that sucks. That has always been a fear of mine since tearing mine (and having it reconstructed) way before I ever have owned a bike.

If you haven't read it yet Dr. Mark has spent a lot of time on KTMtalk giving advice on knee injuries. A doc who rides and understands what we need out of our bodies is a good thing. I believe he is located in Houston.

no surgery at this time. doc thinks it will heal okay on it's own. they put me in a big brace and told me to use crutches-no weight bearing, for three weeks and then will re-examine.

Damn the luck. I cant believe it. If its any consolation a friend of Maggies destroyed her ACL. Surgical repair and 12mos of rehab and she is good as new. She is my age and in a cutting sport which is harder on the joints. Saying a prayer for you.

I'm no doctor and I don't play one on TV...but... I didn't think the ACL could repair itself. From what I understand, it doesn't have blood flow which is why it is replaced much more often than the other liagments in the knee. You can live without your ACL though, just need to be careful. I am certain I didn't have mine for at least 6 months prior to tearing up my meniscus, MCL and tendon. I did look into Dr Mark, but I really didn't have the ability to go to Houston. Sounds like his technique is unique and has a fast recovery time.

Good luck. I do hope you don't have to have surgery again.
I wish my doc could go in on my other knee and tighten it up. It has much more hyperextention than my repaired knee...

hey susan, i was just wondering about you guys the other day. never see you on here anymore. i thought maybe you all quit riding.

the doc was impressed by the lack of looseness in my knee. i think that is why he decided to skip surgery for now.

I tore my acl years ago, and didnt have it replaced(at the time, cadaver acl's were the only option). Once you build up the muscles around it, you can function well. I play racquetball, jet ski (stand-up) and ride bikes regularly and havent worn the brace for about 7-8 years. Not saying that the new treatment isnt better, just commenting on the ability to function without replacement. Lorin.

When I finally blew mine out, it was REALLY loose. I couldn't even put it on the floor gently without it slipping out. Oh well. I did get the cadaver and it works great now!

We have had a long MX season this year. We started riding in Colorado beginning in February and hit 12 races between Co Springs and Pueblo in a 5 month time span. My oldest endoed during a practice in late June and cracked his pelvis in three places. He was in 8th place in the 125C class series when he had his accident. Since then we have hit races mostly local, in Dodge City and Wichita. Steve hopped on a 450 last weekend for his first race in two years. He didn't do too bad, 4th out of 23.... He has been heading up to Rampart Range with a friend a couple of times this summer.

I hope your knee stays tight and doesn't bother you. I know you know surgery sucks..... :yell:

my doc decided to send me to his partner who is a knee specialist. he said that he still preferred to not do surgery but will let his partner make the decision as to whether or not to reconstruct. i go to see him friday. it still hurts some but at least i'm getting to the point that i can walk unaided (still wearing a huge brace).

i've been doing a few short street rides to get my motorcycle fix. i got caught in a hellacious rainstorm (ike) saturday about 35 miles from home. i rode it out.

My first surgery to put in a cadaver ACL was in Feb 2007. I had a second surgery in April to clean up a ton of scar tissue that had built up to where I couldn't straighten out my leg. Tried riding in July 2007, but was too scared. By October I was back on the bike, although I was very leary, but the knee was strong. By the Feb of this year I was back to normal.... (Well, the knee is normal anyway :whoa: )

Good luck! I'll be thinking about you...
Susan

How long do you have until 50 ? Take your time getting the knee ready so you dont really screw it up.

My cousin Johnny is having surgery tomorow. broke both bones in his lower arm saturday night at tmx.
