I've been noticing that my bike smells very hot when taking it up a long hill climb or after ringing it out good. The bike seems to pull good through the RPM range and when I pull the plug it looks good with no visible signs of detonation or over heating.

The bike is ridden almost exclusively on trails and its not real often that she really gets blown out good. I know this is not the ideal enviroment for a 125, so I was wondering if maybe I'm just burning off unspent oil when I get to really open it up good? I've done some searching through the archives and found a thread that supports that theory. http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/showthread.php?t=21362&highlight=UH-OH+Smell

Anyone else agree that this is likely my answer? I'm just looking for confirmation to ease my mind.....

Sounds like you're on the right track. If by, "the bike smells very hot", you mean the odor is coming from the exhaust and smells like oil being burning off.

Try jetting for your ride style. Sounds like your main is ok. You may think about going down a step "leaner" on your slow jet.

Good luck, Steve.

Yes the smell is coming from the silencer. Thanks for the advice. I have done some tinkering with the jetting, but plan on trying a one step richer needle clip position this weekend. I have made the following mods so far.

Main jet 162 (stock 160). I just feel better running slightly richer than stock.
Needle 2nd clip from the top(stock is 3rd clip).
Pilot 40 (stock 45).
Running a Br8eg plug.

The clip position and pilot are recommended settings by Kawi for that year to help clean up the low rpm bog that that year was apparently known for.
