Glad you're okay Chris. When I was reading what you'd done out to my husband, he asked what the hell you'd hit (truck or what).
If you're missing the bikes, talk to the track about flagging (heaps of threads about this) - that way you can still smell & hear them & be involved (and contribute something back). (if your wife will let you anywhere near bikes that is lol).
Just an idea and really, I'm glad you're okay.

Your positive attitude reminds me of this story. It's kinda long but worth reading...

YOU START YOUR DAY TOMORROW.

Michael is the kind of guy you love to hate. He is always in a good mood and always has something positive to say. When someone would ask him how he was doing, he would reply, "If I were any better, I would be twins!" He was a natural motivator.

If an employee was having a bad day, Michael was there telling the employee how to look on the positive side of the situation.

Seeing this style really made me curious, so one day I went up to Michael and asked him, "I don't get it! You can't be a positive person all of the time. How do you do it?"

Michael replied, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, you have two choices today.

You can choose to be in a good mood or ... you can choose to be in a bad mood. I choose to be in a good mood.

Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or...I can choose to learn from it. I choose to learn from it.

Every time someone comes to me complaining, I can choose to accept their complaining or... I can point out the positive side of life. I choose the positive side of life.

"Yeah, right, it's not that easy," I protested.

"Yes, it is," Michael said. "Life is all about choices.

When you cut away all the junk, every situation is a choice.

You choose how you react to situations.

You choose how people affect your mood. You choose to be in a good mood or bad mood.

The bottom line: It's your choice how you live your life."

I reflected on what Michael said. Soon hereafter, I left the Tower Industry to start my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life instead of reacting to it.

Several years later, I heard that Michael was involved in a serious accident, falling some 60 feet from a communications tower.

After 18 hours of surgery and weeks of intensive care, Michael was released from the hospital with rods placed in his back.

I saw Michael about six months after the accident. When I asked him how he was, he replied. "If I were any better, I'd be twins. Wanna see my scars?"

I declined to see his wounds, but I did ask him what had gone through his mind as the accident took place.

"The first thing that went through my mind was the well-being of my soon to be born daughter, "

Michael replied. "Then, as I lay on the ground, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or ....I could choose to die. I chose to live."

"Weren't you scared? Did you lose consciousness?" I asked.

Michael continued, "...the paramedics were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the ER and I saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got really scared. In their eyes, I read "he's a dead man. I knew I needed to take action."

"What did you do?" I asked.

"Well, there was a big burly nurse shouting questions at me," said Michael. "She asked if I was allergic to anything.

"Yes, I replied." The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, "Gravity."

Over their laughter, I told them, "I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am alive, not dead."

Michael lived, thanks to the skill of his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude. I learned from him that every day we have the choice to live fully.

Attitude, after all, is everything.

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

After all today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.

You have two choices now:

1. Ignore this.

2. Forward it to the people you care about.

OMG i hurt just reading it

Dude, Ouch.

Glad to hear your allright though...

Get well, and don't ride before you can. The only thing worse than getting hurt, is to re-hurt (sorry lack of word's) yourself cause your body wasn't fully healed, and strong enough.

Mother of God!! I wish you a speedy recovery. Thanks for the vivid description. I'm glad I'm not that type to go that big, otherwise you'd have scared me off for sure!

Get well soon, man!

By the way...how has your wife handled this? I'm just thinking to myself that my wife would skin me alive if I racked myself up this badly. (Knock on wood.) It sounds like your wife has been pretty supportive though.

Chris-

I sympathize with you 100%, because I too am currently recovering from a nasty get-off resulting in various breaks. Unfortunately for me, the old Alpinstars didn't work quite as well, and I shattered my right foot. Actually, they worked pretty well, because both orthopedic surgeons stated that I'd probably lost the better portion of my foot without them. Consequently it turned out to be nothing that a few pins and some re-constructed bone couldn't take care of.

From one battered Chris to another- My thoughts to you for a quick recovery.

Yeah, I just got married on 12-01-01. So we have been together for 5 months now. I remeber being in the intensive care unit, she was ripping off the med tape to redress the staples and I looked up at her and said "For better or worse, right?". she smiled and is so cool about this. Granted she has been through alot but she has surpassed all expectations I ever had on the care she shows me.
She is actually very cool about me riding again, she knows what a passion that I have for the sport.
She did state that if she actually was there and saw the crash and aftermath, she would've put the bike in the papers... But fortunately that didnt happen.
She does want to come and watch me the 1st time that I do go back to this particular track again.
....
As always, thanks for all the support. The physical thereapist specialist just left my house. Leaving me with my lists of exercised to do. I am actuall walking on a platform walker. No weight on the right leg, but the P/T specialist couldnt believe the condition I am in now after hearing the story, seeing the wounds and my X-Rays. He said my kind worry him for we tend to feel very good about progress and over due it.
I advised I will be cool about it. I know I need some time and dont want to rush back in while not fully healed.
......
Until next time my friends, keep your throttles twisting as I will soon be back out there with you!!!!!! ;)

Just posting back on with an update. I have pretty good usage of my arm now, it will only pop out if I really strain it and I try not to put any weight on it at all...got all 77 staples out of my legs this past monday and had new x rays on them. besides the rods in the femurs, they used 2 screws at the hip and 2 screws at the bottom near knee on each leg. My ortho wants to remove the bottom 2 screws because they are almost touching the ACL knee reconstruction screws, so I have that to look forward to. But my sprits are still up and I am can walk out to the garage with a walker, hope to be on crutches in a week or 2, I cant believe it!!!
BUT get this.... I have insurance on my bike, collision, comp, and $1k towards gear and custom parts... Insurance rep comes out, attempts to write estimate and will get back to me. they advise me last night that they have to review coverage for there is an exclusion for racing... I know this, I work in insurance, the exclusion is that damage occouring while racing is not covered. I wasnt racing, I dont even belong yet to district 7 here to enter a race! he states that i was "Practicing for a race". NO, I was riding my bike. They feel that since I went to a private facility, that has 7 tracks, 600 acres of trails, you pay $25 to ride, that I am racing. They want to call there and see if a race was ever held there. Because that is my intent... THIS is such BS. I dont have #'s on my bike, i was riding a OHV legally, where else can I ride? should I have said I was riding on illegal land to have coverage? What is the difference between what I did and skiing at a ski resort. You pay admission at the mountain to ski, you come down the hill. Maybe they had a race at the mountain earlier that year, does that mean you are a racer... I am soo Hot. I know I can win, but will have to probably get hold of the insurance commisioner..It is like they are fabricating what I was doing or my intentions. I went to RIDE!. Man I am so pissed that they are even playing with this angle on me. I have to wait to hear back from them. The rep has to call track and then review with the manager there. They have 1 race a year at this facility and it is on the 600 acres for a hare scramble. the tracks have no starting gates and are small. I feel a race is a contest, with a start and finish and you register and....... I am too winded to continue... Somebody, give me some feedback on this one, Am I crazy to feel this way or what??????????

You ride dirtbikes, of coarse you're crazy-- but that has nothing to do with this. Stick to it, if you were not racing they should have to pay. Probably need to start looking for another ins. co., you'll probably be cancelled.
Good luck.

Insurance is the biggest scam in the country. They sure didn't have a problem when you were paying premiums though did they. I believe lawyers give insurance companies kickbacks to refuse to pay so you have to hire a lawyer to get what you already paid for. Same with disability, if you don't have a lawyer, your not gettin' it!

GOod luck with your recovery! :) I know what you are going through since I spent 10 weeks in a wheelchair / 2 weeks on crutches/ and 6 months limping a couple years ago.
On the insurance - racing is racing, and riding is riding IMO. If they define racing as "getting ready for a race" then a letter from a good attorney would be worth it's weight and probably change their mind. It is money off their profit margin and they will try and get away with whatever they can, usually.

So how much weight is saved with the titanium? ;) Well if there is a bright side legs are better then both arms. Makes for interesting times in the crapper  and faith in someone to keep their mouth shut. Be glad you did it in a time where 'We have the technology'. To heel a femur in the dark ages was three months in traction and 18 months on crutches...For me it was just shy of forever :ugg: You'll be up in no time. Get better and start hammering again.

sorry to hear of your accident.I to am healing from a bad crash.back in january I wrecked and broke my leg right below my right knee, when the bone snaped it bent back and cut the artery.I was in the hospital for 15 days and for the first 8 days the doctors weren't sure if I was going to keep my leg or not but the whole time I had a good attitude and now have a leg(it has a titanium plate and 6 screws but it is a leg)the hardest part to deal with was them saying I would probably never wrestle again(and next year being my senior year I was crushed) but I never thought I wouldn't and now after months of physical therapy the doctors are saying I will probably be able to wrestle next november.the moral of the story don't go by what the doctor says but don't mess yourself up.and keep a good attitude and you will be better in no time.I still can't start my 426 but my dad starts it for me so I can ride a little
