pinging

Can anyone explain the pinging noise associated with a too lean situation. I'm not sure what I'm listening for. I just installed a FMF fatty/PC 2 combo and Boysen power reeds on my son's KX 65. I am using FMF's jetting specs and the bike runs great, the plug looks good and no spooge. But when the bike is winding down after being revved I hear a ying ying ying. Is this the pinging I've heard described or should I be listening when the bike is under power?

What folks typically describe as pinging only happens under power, not when the throttle is closed.

Thanks Crim, thats what I thought, but wasn't sure. I get awful nervous about running lean.
