Feeler guages would be enough to test that the camshaft to valve clearance is large enough while the piston sits at TDC on the compression stroke. Typically these have been within specs for those who have tested them. If they are out of adjustment - you would have to refer to the charts provided in the manual to determine which shim you would need to bring the clearance within spec.
