Okay i have it narrowed down between 2 bikes. The RM has about a month of riding on it and is all stock and the 250F has been raced but is also in good condition. Both are about the same price. I'm 35 yrs old about 200lbs and do mostly trail ridng with my kids on their XR50 and 70 as well as going out for the occasional mx track day and aggressive trail rides without the kids. What do you think would be the better ride.

Is the RM Matt's? If so that bike was hardly even touched as shortly after he got his 03 zooks he made his deal to ride Green. Do you know the owner of the 250f? The 01's had some issues, cranks I believe that could get pricey if it grenades. If you know who the owner is but don't know them personally feel free to e-mail the info on the bike as I may know the owner if it's been raced locally here. The KX didn't turn out to be decent?

Yea the RM is Matts and Id really like to get it. The only problem is we worked out a price and he wants to take the chain and sprockets off the 02 and put them on the 03 for the price. I was okay not getting the extra Suzuki parts package he has but would really like the newer as opposed to the worn out chain and sprockets. The main reason is that I would be totally tapped out at the price he wants (fair price)and dont want to have to start looking at replacing parts right away. The yzf is out in Minnesota and I heard about it from a friend. Thanks for the help Chili.

Hmmm I can't recall the last time I looked at his 02 I thought it had decent chain and sprockets on it but I could be wrong. To be perfectly honest if it's still the stock chain and sprockets on the 03 most folks toss the stock Suzuki chain as soon as they get the bike. The stock sprockets are supposed to be decent though, Sunstars I believe. Maybe a small compromise on price will get him to leave the chain and sprockets? If not I'll most likely be selling the still new stock chain off my son's 03 RM125 as soon as we start to set the bike up for race season  As for the Suzuki spares kit, I'm not sure how much he is knocking off the price to give this item up but if you can get it included in the price for less than a extra hun it would be worth the dough. In the kit you get an extra brake lever, extra clutch lever, complete top end kit as well as a spare of every gasket on the bike and a few extra carb jets.
As for the 01 YZ250F in Minnesota, not sure if your aware of the details of purchasing a bike in the states but I've looked into it recently as there has been a few deals on the Dist 23 web board that had really peaked my interest. Essentially you have to consider the exchange rate on the bike, then you get dinged with both taxes at the border even though if you bought the bike used in Canada you would pay neither tax unless you were plating the bike for road usage. I argued the taxes issue with Canada Customs about a month ago and they said my only recourse would be to pay the taxes at the border and then file an appeal which may or may not be granted for hearing depending on how the government interprets the rules  So the 2 KX's I had lined up that were screamer deals ended up costing the same as any of the local bikes here without all the hassles.

Ive looked into bringing it across the border and even with both taxes in it was a pretty good deal. Matt had told me that the 02 chain and sprockets were worn out. I would really like his bike but like I said I think we have come to a point where he cant go any lower and I cant go any higher. The 250f sounds like it has been really looked after but then you never know for sure.

Only you can decide where that line is and I don't know how you did off his original asking price but if the deal is a good one I'd be inclined not to let it drop for the chain and sprockets. You can pick up a decent chain and set of sprockets for less than $100 cdn. The other thought is if your maxing out the price range maybe look at the 02? Other than that be patient as more and more used bikes will start to hit the trader in the next few weeks as the racers start to come out of hibernation. Although I think you may be hard pressed to find anyone selling a hardly touched 03 in your price range. either way I'll keep an ear open for something that may be suitable for you and drop you a line.

There's a feature I don't like! Show's that I deleted the message, how do I cover up my mistakes! I was just trying to post a copy of a pic I had of Matt on the 02 launching 120 feet downhill at Morden.
