As I'm coming closer to the reality of getting myself a big bore thumper (finally) I've come to the realization that a WR would probably be better suited to my needs. I race cross country and hare scrambles. The bigger gas tank would be the first mod I'd make to a YZ, and since the WR comes more equipped outta the box, that's extra dough in my pocket. The electric start would be just wonderful I'm sure. It's not that the new YZF's are hard to start, but when you dump it in a corner that's just extra energy and time to kick as opposed to pushing the button. The lights I don't really care about (they'll probably be gone pretty quick, but kept for DW :) ).

After all this I've got a quick question: How much heavier is the 02 WR than the 03? I still haven't seen an 03 up close and personal yet, but when I was at the bike shop I saw a leftover 02 on the floor, and that thing was heavy. Whenever you stood next to the bike and leaned it from side to side you could feel all that extra weight, especially compared to the 03 YZF sitting next to it. Are the 03's like this too? I read that they lost weight everywhere like the YZF did, but then gained the electric start and battery. The bike itself can be heavy, that I don't mind, but if it handles "heavy" then I can't do it.

So, what's the verdict?

Seems like I read that the weight stayed the same, but they added the E-start. So, 02 and 03 weigh the same, but you get the magic button. A lot of the weight issue is how well a bike carries it. The DRZ I had rode very well for the hog that it was! Although I had shaved quite a bit of weight off of it.
