02 YZ 125 Setup

Hey I just bought a 02 YZ 125 from a guy who had it setup for riding in Salt Lake City. I live in Houston so I need to set it up for sea level. It has a 450 Main with a 25 Pilot in it. The needle clip is 1 down from the top. Does anyone know what seems to work best for a stock engine setup on this bike at an elevation of 97 feet and temps in the 80's-95's? I don't have an owner's manual for this bike so any help would be great. I also beleive that the oil mixture is 32:1. Any ideas on the best oil ratio and oil type would also be great.

Buy an owners manual, it is very helpful for that bike. Put the stock jets in it and work from there.
25:1-32:1 with a good oil (Mobil 1 MX2T, Yamalube 2R, etc, etc, etc.) would be a good fuel/oil mix.

I wouldn't mix anything more than 32:1 in fact maybe go towards more like 40:1 I'm getting tired of everyone cramming down your throat 32:1 32:1. I forget my jetting specs on my 02 YZ 125 I owned for sea level. Stock jetting was pretty good but not the best, I didn't like the stock tapered needle I do remember I changed it to a special order one that made the bike crisp. I would go back to stock that main is rich. I ran like a 410 needle in #2 clip with a 35-40 pilot whatever it was stock just one size leaner and air screw was 1.5 to around 2 turns out. Maybe look on Yamaha online part catalog for the stock settings I'm sure it's listed maybe even the upgraded needle that was offered later.

So pimp whats so great bout 40:1? or better yet whats so wrong with 32:1?, other than the cramming part :moon:

Need to start a better rep for cleaner burning 2 strokes :) like KTM's new oem spec's of 60:1 for thier '05's

Not true. My guess is that Rich's 2-Strokes running 18:1 didn't smoke once they were warm.

60:1=Faster wear on parts and less power.

It's due to some new crank plating process which allows it.

I guess...but if it were my bike I'd still be running 32:1.
