03 rm65 shifting problems

Have an 03' rm 65 that has recently developed shifting problems. My son complains of difficulty shifting up from 2nd to 3rd and down 3rd to 2nd under power. I have the engine in pieces but haven't seen anything glaring yet. I am sure he has abused the shifter having trouble getting it to move and mostlikely stomped it to some degree. Didn't find any pieces in the tranny fluid and was fairly clean. Anyone with any similar experiences?

I'm no expert but I have this problem with my YZ250 and after searching this forum and seeing many others do too, it seems to be dirty or the wrong type of gear oil. Too thick or too thin I'm not sure but I went from a 70wt oil to a 30wt oil and my shifting became easier.

try a 5W10 full synthetc gear box oil.I run that in my KX 60 and it works perfect

Check shift shaft on clutch side of engine.The part that shifts the shift drum can crack at end and cause what you are describing.Found three kx65s same problem all cracked in same area . :ride:
