125 EXC bottom end

Does anyone know what is different in the 125sx top end compared to the exc? I have heard that the exc has decent low end power and the sx is non exsistent.I may be purchasing a 125 for my son in the fall to replace his kx 100 and he could use a bike with a little low end.

Everthing is relative. I rode a 125 EXC and a 125SX. You're right, the SX has no bottom end. all the power is in the middle and top. For a 125cc machine, the EXC has a little bit of torque. You can idle around on it without using the clutch. However, no 125cc two-stroke is going to have a wealth of low-end power. If you get into any sand or climb a hill of significant size, you will have to scream the 125 EXC and ride it like a 125cc two-stroke. Both bikes respond best high revs. But of the two, the EXC is definitely more user-friendly and does offer the most bottom end power. Good luck.

For a few hundred bucks more get him the 200EXC. Far easier to ride and way easier to re-sell than the 125 will be.

The difference is the SX uses a one ring piston and the EXC uses a two ring piston.

And the SX has a 39mm carb verses the 38 of the EXC.I wouldnt be surprised if has a different flywheel/ignition.BTW my 01 125 sx did have some bottom end-not alot but as much as most Jap 125s.

200exc hp

anybody no the hp difference between the 200 and 125, I don't want to get my son in over his head.

It does. It has a heavier flywheel and a lighing coil. :D

The total power the 125 puts out is the same as the 200 but the way they get there is totally different.:p

I have a 125 exc and love it. It does have useable bottom end and is really versatile BUT at the end of the day it is a 125 and needs to be worked hard to get the most out of it. The bottom end feels stronger than it actually is due to the lightness of the bike and it inspires confidence to chuck it about and try anything. I ride with two xr400's and an xr600 and to start with got lots of stick from them for buying a 125...this all stopped once I started leaving them for dead through the woods:)

Anyway, the 125exc is a great bike but it makes me want the 200exc - similar price/weight but slightly less work...I will never buy a heavy bike again!

Marcus your kidding, right? An additional 75cc's must have an influence on overall HP...

nope sorry to destroy your hopes but the std 125sx has approx 33hp and the 200 has 34hp,but the 200 produces it at alot lower revs(8000rpm verses 11000rpm.It would feel totally different to ride as at 7000 rpm the 200 has 26hp but the 125 only has 14hp.On the opposite side at 12000 rpm the 125 has 26hp but the 200 only has 10hp so as you can see if you rev the 200 it will go slow and if you lug the 125 it will go slow-choose you power wisely.:eek:
