Hey,

For the past two years i've ridden my friend's dad's 2001 Honda XR250. Now i want to get my own bike. Here's the thing, I want to get a well rounded bike. I want to get into fmx, a little bit of motocross and also be a bike that works well on the trails. My main focus though is the fmx. What bike should i get? Keep in mind that i would like to spend 5 grand or under and also which is better for what im looking at, 2 or 4 stroke and why.

Thanks

get a 250 2 stroke or 250f four stroke
250 2 stroke for the fmx and some trails " 2 stroker very fast lots of acceleration"
250f 4 stroke for trails "easier to ride not as accelerated as 250 2 stroke but still fast "
keep looking at bikes see what you like!

Thanks.

Which would be better deal? A 2003 Yamaha YZ250F for 2000 dollars that has a bunch of upgrades like a dr. d pipe and suspension or a stock '09 Kawasaki KX250F for 6900 dollars?

well the thing about both of those bikes is that they are high perfomance four stroke bikes which means they will reqire lots of maitnance and regular rebuilds. however they are alot of fun to ride. and they have probably twice the power of a XR 250.

plz correct me if im wrong.

GREAT! The XR250 sucks, it doesnt start easily, in opinion, would it be better to go with the Yamaha considering i could get if 7 months earlier and for 4 grand less? (keep in mind that the yamaha is from a friend who takes good care of it)

also how much would you expect that these bikes would cost on a regualr basis, maintenace and rebuilds?

One last thing. Ik that the Kawasaki 09 is a good bike but is the 2003 yamaha?

Seriously, if you're gonna try to get into FMX, consider a 250 2-stroke. The 2-stroke is preferred by the majority of the dudes who hit the ramps. Less bogging issues, lighter, easier to throw around in the air, different center of gravity, no decompression braking, more grab points like around the seat/exhaust area, good power/acceleration, etc.... It's also a good all around bike for MX and hitting the trails too. And less maintenance that a 4-stroke.

As for 250F's, if you go with the 2003, be ready to drop $2-3k into the motor, as you're bound to have problems sometime in the near future.

There is no comparison between an 09 KXF and an 03 YZF, $6900 is a tad high though I was quoted $6000 otd from a dealer in North Dakota.

But if hitting ramps is where it's at for you I think it's a flat biller law that you need to ride a 250 2 stroke.
