I originally posted this question in the trails forum, but have not gotten any responses yet. The bikes are still available...and if i can sell off my 1970 CL100 (see the bikes for sale forum), I just might go for these KT's....but need some input on value of these! Anyone?

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Orig post>>>>>>>>>>>

I recently told my wife I was not going to get into any more vintage bikes...then today, I stumble across a guy with 4 1974 or 75 Kawasaki KT250s for sale!

I have not seen the bikes - but this is what I was told - of the 4, 1 has less than 200 miles on it, and is in "great" condition (yeah, we have all heard that before), 2 of them are OK condition, but run and are rideable, and pretty much complete. 1 is a parts donor bike. And, get this. the 4 bikes, are consequetively numbered serial numbers... Evidently this guys uncle or Dad or some such family member bought 6 of these back in the day, eventually sold off 2, and this guy ended up with the remaining 4.

My thought is, if i can get a good deal on these (dunno yet what he wants for them), sell off two or three such I re-coup most of my cost, and keep the 4th (not necessarily the real nice one...but hopefully a decent example. I am not a trials rider, but must say I am intrigued with having one around to goof around on, plus simply because I like old, unique bikes around!

So...what sort of value might these bikes have? Seems I see plenty of Yamaha TY250s around online, but never have came across any KT's before. Evidently not as popular back then.

Back in the day it was the best Jap trials bike made. But I hope you are a good machinist because you'll have to fabricate all of your parts. Because of that, values are soft for the KTs.

If you can, buy multiple bikes so you can have a stash of goodies - if needed.

Mike,

About fifteen years ago, I went to a trials event to spectate and a guy ended up loaning me a '76 KT250 to ride in the event. It was stock except for some nice Michelin tires. The bike was amazing considering its age. I even ended up clearing some sections that I would have never dream of clearing. However, when the event was over somebody else said "here, try my Beta"................no comparo!

If you can pick it/them up at a reasonable cost, you'll have a ball with it/them. They are quite capable even today.

Bultaco...thats sorta what I feared. It is kinda ironic, (yet makes sense) that a model of bike that clearly there are not many out there (limited supply), so you might think could caputure a greater value, end up being low(er) value bikes for for the same reason (no supply, so cant get parts).

Tim - I am sure I would have have fun indeed! Now I have to convince Sheila that I really need to add 4 bikes to the garage! Hard sell, seeing I told her I was selling off all the old stuff! Lets see...3 left to sell...buy 4...carry the 1....yep thats a net increase. Hmmm...will be a hard sell indeed!

(Btw - see you at the Spring Pine Cone if you and the kids plan to be there!)
