There is a guy up here who is selling a KDX 200 that he says is a 1980. I looked on the timeline and it doesnt show the 200 appearing until 1984. Would this just be a typo, or is there a 200 that was made then?
thanks,
Loughty

He wrong, in 1980 it was a KDX 175. I owned one. The time line is right.

I still have my 1980 KDX175 and it is great. I never got a KDX 200 when they came out in '84. But this summer I bought a non-running 1985 that I hope to hear run in the next week or two.

Check the base of the cylinder. There are usually markings to tell you what size it is. Quite often the owner doesn't have a clue as to what he really has. It could even be a 250 or 400. The mubbler on the '82 175 and the '83 200 were both pretty long and round. The exhaust made a single straight line shot out the end. In '84 and '85 the muffler was more oval shaped and came in near the bottom of the oval and exited out the top part of the oval. The '86-'88 models had a front disk brake.

Actually, the KDX turned to 200cc in 83. I remember it well, having owned a 80 KDX175, which was most unreliable, biggest POS motorcycle I ever hope to own.

In 83, the KDX200 was released, but few of the racers I knew, actually bought them. Many of them were still stinging from buying repeated top ends for the their KDX175, and instead opted to ride IT175's despite that the IT175 was marginally less powerful. In 84, the IT went to 200cc.
