As a project I'm planning to build a modern spec aircooled woods bike. A tuned 87 KDX 200 motor into an 86 KX125 frame with later KX swingarm, linkage and subframe and 2003 onwards suspension (45mm inverted forks, Ohlins shock)

Apart from the motor, the 86 frame cradle will be the only pre '90 part on it. The steering angle seems a touch bigger than later bikes. By 2 or 3 degrees.

Can anyone give me an idea of how the 86's were to ride? Did they turn, were they stable? What kind of beast were they?

86 bikes were still purty heavy. I know of a maniac who'd pierce holes in the frame and swingarm at every place he could to take off weight from the bike. It was a bit older than an 86 though! I wouldn't recommend this method :coocoo:
