1988 YZ 250.. Bogging and surging on idle.

I have a 1988 YZ 250 that just had the top and bottom end redone. Broke it in and took it to the track.

The bike ran great until later in the day when it would bog at various times. Mainly coming out of corners is when I would notice it the most.

It also seems to surge while idling, riding slow coasting.

It has a Mikuni carb that does not look like anything in the Clyner manual that I have.

I thought it might be the float level, so I took the bowl off and the floats are attached to the bowl and ride on tow brass poles.

How do you set up the float level on floats like these.

Also, is there a more modern carb that would be good for this bike?

TIA

the standard back yard method of float hieght for any carburator is the float tangs should be parralel with the carb body right at the moment of the needle and seat opening and closing, not having a manual or even the model of the carb that should get you close
