1993 rm125 trail gearing

i just started riding this bike and i'm wondering what a good trail ratio is. we ride in michigan and it's basically sand. this bike is good in first and second ( comes on a little strong though ) but falls down in third.

Do you know what gearing you are running now? My 94 RM 125 had stock gears, 13/49.. and was way too quick. I would go up maybe to 13/53... that would give you lots more low speed power to work with. Helped my YZ125 out a ton!
