My wife has a 1999 CR80R Expert that loses about 1/4 of her coolant everytime we take it out for a ride.

Any ideas what could be the issue? It does overflow some out of the cap but I dont think it loses all of it that way.

Thanks,

Bob

There's only 3 places for it to go.

1) Leaking out through the cap, or another external leak. This should be obvious to find. Replacing the cap is a start.

2) A bad head gasket is allowing the coolant to leak internally and be burned. This is normally visible as large clouds of white exhaust, which is steam from the water. This can also lead to external leaks, due to combustion pressure entering the cooling system.

3) A bad set of waterpump seals/bearings/shaft is allowing the coolant to enter the transmission case. This will be visible as milky transmission oil.

If you are talking about the weep hole, which is found on almost every other water cooled bike ever made, it is only an external seal leak that will show here. An internal leak can still fill the tranny with coolant.

RM80 don't have weep hole now this bike has done that to me but on my CR80 I have never had tranny fill with coolant and own this bike very long time and it on 9 new water pump seal.
