Did the bike come with a manual ? In case you didn't think about it you might want to ask if they have a manual to go with it so you'll know how much tranny oil to put in it.

As for the fuel/oil ratio, 32:1 would be ideal for a 250cc motocross bike and most manuals suggest this ratio as well...Some guys run 40:1 but to be on the safe side I'd go with 32:1.

The pre mix oil of choice from many of the experts on these forums seems to be the FULLY synthetic Mobil MX2T that you can get at autozone for a pretty good price when compared to the stuff the motorcycle shops sell..It's about $3.50. I use it and it is a very clean oil that helps eliminate some of the leftover spooge that's common with two stroke motocross bikes...The only thing is that the oil has no color in it so you need to always make sure you have oil in it because you won't be able to tell by looking at the color of the gasoline. Other than that it's an excellent high performance two stroke oil.

The oil capacity should be cast into the clutch side cover near the oil fill plug. It is probably 700 to 750 ml. It's better to error on the side of too much oil if your not sure. The excess will just blow out the vent.

I have this very bike. Changing oil is as simple as it gets on this.
Go buy a case of AFT Type F and it holds exactly one quart. I've
done three top-ends on the bike and I'm just getting ready to change
the clutch. I've gone through two cases of the stuff and it works and
it's cheap and it's the correct amount.

...And even though there is plenty of people to help answer your questions I'd still buy a manual for the bike if you don't get one from the previous owner. It's always good to have it on hand when working on the bike. It'll save ya from having to run inside + log onto DRN + ask question + wait for response. :thumb:

Mudboy - what plug are you running?....and what pipe and jet setup do you have?

I'm running an FMF fatty pipe, an NGK BR8ES plug, and V-Force reeds. I don't remember the jetting but I'm at 5,000 feet and the riding areas go up from there so my jetting probably won't work for most...

This bike still pulls as hard as about anything, but I wouldn't call it a smooth power. You rev it like a 125 and keep it on the pipe, which is fine for me since I only ride the dunes with it.

it's about 8/10 of a quart - I just sold this same bike and I had terrible clutch dragging with ATF and EBC clutch, so I switched back to motor oil. I also had zero luck jetting it for slow speed woods, so I ended up running a 7 plug for woods and 8 for dunes. It never fouled, but it always spooged heavily in the woods. Porting for low end would probably help the whole situation, but I gave up and bought a thumper :P

Towards the end, I gave up on those and just changed it frequently. the 30$ plug is supposedly to help a problem with the motors generating a vibration that causes the electrode tip to fall off (you can see the difference in construction if you compare them). I didn't have any problems with the BR8 and the BR7.
