Im looking at getting a 99 YZ 250 and so far i havent noticed anything wrong with it while test riding it. i was just wondering how it would compare to newer bikes like a 00-02 CR or YZ? was there anything wrong with the bike that year, like airbox sealing or something like that? if anyone could tell me what they like or dislike or any thing that they noticed about the 99 YZ that would help a lot. thanks.

i dont mean old but i know people who have a '00 CR250 and a '02 and the 02 has alot more power. i just wanted to know if thats the same way with the YZ.

They had a ploblem with the radiator shrouds sticking out by your boot. Some people would get their foot stuck in between the peg and the shroud. I did it on my buddies 2000 and it was scary.

Anyway, the manufactures make LOTS of changes every year to make the bike better. I have an 02 YZ 250 and I love it. The major change from the 01 to the 02 was the subframe. They went from steel to aluminum. Most mags prefered the flex/feel of the steel. But I didn't feel any big change.

I can tell you my YZ is 100% better than my 99 CR 250.

they actually went to the aluminum sf in 2000 back to steel in '01 and again to aluminum in '02. :silly:

A good buddy of mine has a 99YZ250. When he first got it several years ago, the motor grenaded due to improper assembly by the previous owner. He had the motor rebuilt with a 265 cc kit, had the frame powder coated and suspension revalved. It's been rock solid ever since and really hauls. If you can get a good deal and it's in good shape, I say there's no reason you can't be competitive on this bike. Remember, it's 95% rider and 5% bike.
