This whole thing is nonsense!! The only reason that the EPA is targeting the 2-strokes is because there is no big foundation with a lot of money to back them up. Why doesn't the EPA look at all the buses and trucks and big old goofy factories? Because they have tons of money to shell out for the EPA to look the other way.

If this goes thru, which most likely it will, it will show the government that the EPA is actually doing something.

The whole thing about 2-strokes being able to be used for competition use only, pretty much means that if you race, you'll be fine. If you don't then you’re out of luck. Just like NASCAR, and all the other motor sports.

Don't think that if your ride you’re 2-stroke on a track you will be ok, because you wont. You will have to be in a competition atmosphere to be able to ride one.

It's a whole big mess and the people who enjoy riding get stuck in the middle and we are the ones that will get screwed in the long run!

Two-strokes manufactured before 2006 will likely be "grandfathered". This means bikes manufactured before 2006 can still be ridden on "open" state and federal lands and those made later will be out of luck.

The practical effect is the factories will be making very few 2 strokes after 2006 since there won't be many places to ride them.

This is similar to what happened in California where only 2 strokes manufactured before 1997? can get a "green" sticker allowing them to use such places, but those made later can't.

Somebody from CA correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm sure the ban is just a rumor. The ramifications of outlawing (or banning) 2 -strokes doesn't make sense. If that was the case, what would the bike makers do. I'm sure only a small portion of their customers actaully race. Like myself, I plan on riding (on trails) until somebody pulls my cold dead hands from my handle bars.

I'm not generally a law breaker, but if they ban 2-strokes I'll make it a point to ride my KX250 right through town at 3AM every weekend.

For my neighbors sake, I hope this ban is just a rumor.

Jeff,
Isn't that standard fare for Spencer anyway?

Even though Spencer, NY may only have 3 lawmen in town, they seem to be everywhere. Especially when I'm on my bike. If they tell me it's illegal to ride on designated areas now. I'll make it a point to victimize them and their property in the middle of the night.

There's nothing like a good ole fashion outcasting of your local sheriff.

At the EPA website it states this:

How much will these controls cost?
Your cost for emission controls depends on the control used, manufacturing processes, the size of the manufacturer, and other issues. Many off-highway motorcycle models are already equipped with four-stroke engines, and we estimate the cost for these models to be less than $30. We estimate the cost to replace a two-stroke engine with a four-stroke engine is about $220 to $360 depending on engine size. But, with a four-stroke engine, you are likely to recoup a large portion of this cost over the life of your motorcycle because a four-stroke engine consumes approximately 25% less fuel and much less oil than a two-stroke engine. Four-stroke engines are also more durable, so major repairs are less frequent.

Is it just me or does this not make any sense. What are there figures based on? I read the web site words but all you hear is blah blah blah.

Anyways thats my thoughts.

And what about those dang aroesol cans!

I meant premix. I glanced casually at a patent in on a synthetic diesel fuel for Detroit buses.

I was talking to a couple salesmen at my Honda dealer about what's in the future for 2-strokes he said the CR250 would be a 230 4-stroke and the CR125 would be a 150 4-stroke around 2003 or 04.

This sucks I think I need to find who's responsible for these EPA regulations and QUARTER-HOURSE them behind my CR500

Umm...

Hondabrat, when you talked to the salesman did he say that the 230 would be raced in the 250 class and that the 150 would be raced in the 125 class?? Or would the CR line become trail bike 4 strokes to make room for the new CRF line of the 450 and 250? That seems a bit confusing that the CR250 would turn into a 230 4 stroke. Why would they go to a smaller engine 4 stroke when 4 strokes have to be almost double the size of a 2 stroke engine to be able to keep up?? Incase Honda has some amazing 4 stroke technology I think that RC would get lapped on a 2003 CR 230 4 stroker.:think:think

to mxracer724 i guess the new lineup of 4-stroke CRF's will be racing in accordance to cc's don't think they be replacing the XR lineup because they aren't really setup for trail riding but that new crf450 is pretty good in the woods heck they might even be a motocrosser&and a trail bike

I know that the CRF 450 is a motocross bike and that they are planning on coming out with a CRF 250(well that is just a rumor, but I dought they want yamaha to have all the glory). What I meant was that I was under the impression that next year honda is coming out with some new trail bikes. A 150 & 230 4 stroke.
