Amy and I use a set of Cobra radios, they havea pretty good holster that clips to your waist and a VOX (no button pushing to talk) head set and mic. Careful of the headset type, it has to fit inside your helmet. We have had the same ones for two years ( we lost the set before that) and they work well ( 2 mile range) and cost a LOT less then the clip to your helmet Chatter Box things. We got the one we have now because they are btight yellow... so we don't use another set. :)
Before the radio I was always turning around and looking for Amy. Now I just say hi and when she yells back, then I turn arround.

I've been using Collett Platinum communicators for a couple of years, and can't imagine certain types of riding without them. See a quick post here http://www.dirtrider.net/forums3/showthread.php?t=106277&highlight=communicators

Website is here: http://www.collett.mb.ca/

Our current favourite use for them is in coaching our 5 year olds as they learn to ride. A bicycle is easy enough to run behind and yell, but my bud's KTM 50 is too loud and quick. You can also tell it's time to peel the kids off the bike when their heavy breathing sets off the vox microphone. Kids tire quickly, and then make dangerous errors. Then their mothers become dangerous. I fear danger.

We originally bought them as yet another toy, but a good communicator is a must-have in really gnarly offroad exploring. Collett should pay me commission...I've sold about a dozen units for them by letting people try mine. You can even plug in an MP3/CD player/FM radio to it to listen to during trailrides, and the music cuts out when you start talking.
