Hey all, just put piston & rings in my sons 2000 KX250, started smoking real bad is the reason I changed them, just did the same to my RM250 it is just fine but the KX is still smoking & fouling plugs, not smoking near as bad though. my brother said it might be the crank case gasket, says it might be sucking oil up from in motor could this be true or a reoccuring problem has anyone heard of this happining? I'm using a no smoke synthetic oil, I've learned the hard way not to use a cheap oil, all help replies appreciated Thanks.

Rich jetting will cause some smoking, but if it is really bad then I would also guess the seal in the clutch side of the crank is bad and the lower end in sucking up transmission oil.

Just so you know - in a 4 cycle (car or bike) bad rings cause smoking because they allow oil from the crankcase to enter into the combustion chamber and burn. A 2 stroke doesn't have a bath of oil in the crankcase. The only oil in the engine itself is the oil mixed in the gas. Bad rings won't cause smoking in a 2 stroke.

smoking lightly, and fouling plugs, I poured 2 capfulls of oil in plug hole priar to turning the moter over after just put together, ran a little while, fouled plug, replaced plug with new one fouled again, never got on it yet - no more than quarter throttle, 1/4 tank gas used so far.

If it smokes heavily after warming up it could be the right side crank seal. This leak allows transmission oil to be drawn into the crankcase and burn with the premix. Check the trans oil level. If it's mysteriously disappearing the problem has been found.

did you clean the powervalves while it was apart? If you did not, probably excess oil there is draining back into the crankcase.

also check the seals like stated.
