2002 KX65 in Colorado- 5000 feet elevation

I have a new 2002 KX 65. I dropped the main from stk 190 to 180.

Dropped the pilot from stk 25 to 22.5, raised the neelde clip up a notch to lean it out and it is STILL Rich.

I am running a B9ES plug (one range hotterthan B10 stock)

The plug insulator is shinny and dark but not dripping wet or oil fouled.

There is a little spooge from the tail pipe (just repacked)....

It sounds like I'm close here....should I go to a hotter plug?

Raise Clip to top?

Any Ideas here??

Thanks,

John

I had the same problem you are with my CR when I first got it. It was running way to rich and the fouled plugs had just a dry black insulator color. It was from low compression (worn rings cuaing blowby).

Brand new piston kit. Check your compression with a tester. Mine had 125lbs. which is very low (120lbs minimun to start). You will be able to re-ring a piston before it needs to be replaced itself along with the topend rob bearing.

Also to help you out alittle more does the compression on the bike seem weak when you try and kick start it? Does it take alot of kicks before it starts? Also it is wise to invest into a good compression tester. If you do a compression test hold the throttle wide open. Give it 5 good hard kicks and look at the reading. After you memberize the reading or write it down get a tablespoon and put a tablespoon of 2-stroke oil in the sparkplug hole. The do the test again with the oil. If the reading is 20lbs more then the first then that mean your rings are worn severly and need replacing. Good Luck :)
