It depends on how fast you are....... Pro's need to fill up in that amount of time because they go like 60-70+ miles in 2hrs where as I am a slow poke and only go 10-20miles, so I dont need to refill. You'll have to do a few races to find out how far you can go....At first, stop after 2 laps and then stop on the 3rd(if you didnt refill the first time)...
Last year I was on a KDX220, and I found that I didn't have to fill up once in any of the races, and the most distance I covered was about 85km in a 3hr span.
I figured I'd put the question out there, just incase people have had luck getting by with one tank.. But I know there are so many variables involved that it'd really be tough to compare.. Heck it's winter, and I can't ride.. So I'm typing about it :)
I rode YZ's in 99 and 2000 and the best I ever got was about 25 miles on the stock tank. I ran the Clark 3.2 gallon and could get about 40 miles at race speed. I could make a 2hour Hare Scrambles but never a 3hour, I would always gas at 2hours.
Hope this helps.
Oh, I am a local AA rider, would ride 250A at National HS or GNCC's.
I have a standard tank on my'00 YZ and did 1.5 hours before i HAD to refill, it was a 3 hour HS, and then filled up again at the 2.5 hour mark as a just in case type thing. I ended up doing a 140km's for that particular HS.
My experience riding with MX bikes would be real close to Flyinryan's mileage. I've seen them go almost 40 trail riding but if you're racing I would say 25--30 miles on a stock tank. 40-45 on the larger tank.
Cornwalker, don't get started with the cherry picking stuff! I have rode AA at Nationals and have never finished in the top 10, the GNCC's the best I ever did was 24th overall back when I trained everyday. Going from local races that are 1.5 hours long for Hare Scrambles and about 75 miles max at enduros, it is a little different going to the Nationals that are 3 hours for Hare Scrambles and 90+ for enduros. Plus if you look at most results that is the norm at the big races. If I was able to finish top ten at the Nationals / GNCC then I would ride AA / Pro.
Sorry don't want to change the thread topic, just don't appreciate being called a cherry picker by anyone!
The Hare Scramble Series I'm talking about it the national series put on by the CMA. They are all over the place.. www.canmocycle.ca has more info on the dates.. As does www.harescrambles.ca
