I have a 2002 yz250 and when I change the oil I pull off filler cap and drain oil but no matter how hard I try I only get about 300ml out. What the heck? I can pull the weep bolt also. When I fill it up it only takes 300ml also till it comes out the weep hole. The case itself says 750ml will somebody with the same bike help me out, is that all the oil I will get out or is there a trick to it? Also is there a filter to change also or not I can't find one.

Is the bike vertical and level on the stand when you change it? I actually lean mine to the side nearest the plug. Also, loosen the filler plug so air can come in from the top. Other than that, I don't know.

Bike is straight up and down on stand, and I have tipped it and the filler cap is off but still on 300ML out and in.

I ahve an 02 yz 250 it will take 750ml's. You have to go slow with the clutch basket immediately under the filler but it should not be a problem.

also it helps if the oil is a little warm before you drain it. Any signs of leaking? how does the oil look when it comes out?

if your still only getting 350ml's in you've got me, I'd pull your clutch cover and inspect.

I never bother with the level bolt, i've always just stuck 750 ml in and changed regularly.

Just looks like it hasn't been filled up properly in the past, either that or your bike is burning up shed loads of oil. Just measure out 750ml, pour it in, have a good few rags around with your bike, then drop the oil to see how much is left.

Are you removing drain plugs from the frame and the case?

I always fill my CR up to the check hole with the bike level and don't care how much it takes. If its full, its full...

The correct amount is 750. Yamaha screwed up with the drain bolt location years ago and never got around to changing it.

Agreed on the incorrect reading from the "check level hole". I have a '00 YZ250, had the same confusion. Drain it good, and put the full 750ml in it.

Manuals are always good to have on hand

quote from my yz250 manual "start the bike and let it warm up for a few minutes. wait for five minute." perhaps the oil was not filled all the way last time?
