I was helping a friend change the tranny fluid on an 02 YZ250 he just bought and ran into something I hope someone can answer for me.
We pulled the drain plug, leaned the bike to the left and right to make sure we had all we could get out and ended up draining about 300cc. I thought it must have been low on fluid.

We pulled the level check screw on the right sidecover and filled the tranny until it ran out of the hole. It took only about 300cc.

The sidecover has 750cc stamped on it.

We had to wrap up for the night so I haven't had a chance to play around with it any more, but I've never seen one have so much residual oil trapped (450cc).

Is this normal for the YZ250 or is there a trick to getting closer to the 750cc amount in the tranny?

He didn't get a manual with the bike, that's why I'm asking here.

Hope someone can help.
