2005 KDX Modified

Looks pretty sharp. Does it run good as it looks? Where did you get your frame guards? I have an '03 220 and I can't seem to find any.

babbitsonline.com had them and check the links on just kdx I think they have them also, But I got mine off Ebay for 5.00. As for the bike it runs great never had a better woods bike, I also have a 96 XR 400 but I would rather run the KDX its lighter and a lot more easer to throw around in the woods.

I weigh 181 and my brother in law races endruo's and weigh's the same I do so I had him sent up the suspension to his spec's for racing and I learned to ride that bike at them specs. I have been riding that way since I bought the bike new and have not yet bottomed out the forks or the rear. We ride everywhere from Brown mountain Nc. to Fla. sand, to pine forrest and technical terrain and steep hills near us. And I rode many different bikes at the same areas and I always seem to want to take the KDX along and ride it too. And I always seem to be able to get through the tight stuff so much faster, and I always ride the KDX first when I ride at a new area for the KDX is in my mind Bullet Prof I know I will make it through anything the trail might throw at me.

The stock fork springs are very soft and use a lot of preload. Several manufacturers had soft springs and stiff valving in the early and mid 90's. Look on the mx-tech.com site for a recommendation on the correct spring rate for your weight. Use around 10mm of preload. I think stock is around 28mm. Oddly, the initial travel (small rocks and roots) is softer even with the stiffer fork springs due to the difference in preload. The stiffer (correct rate) fork springs will keep the bike from diving in the turns, keep the proper front and rear balance, etc. It will also allow you to better make use of the increased power you bought. Though it is mostly the idea of setting it up properly, it turns out to be an improvement and hop-up as well. :-)
