I just noticed my bike doesn't want to shift into 4th at speed. I tried putting along slowly and I am able to get both 4th and 5th. Weird...

Now here is what I think it might be: I just recently changed the oil with Maxima 10w/40 regular oil and didn't do the filter.

If the person who owned it before me used synthetic then maybe that plus the dirty filter can cause this.

Update: I talked the previous owner and he was running Golden Spectro 4 so it might be a synthetic to non synthetic issue.

Oil is not your problem if your bike refuses to shift into another gear, skip gears, etc.

Sounds like mechanical tranny issues of some type ...

Can't give much advice on cost or even the problem (other than it's not oil voodoo). It could be the clutch, since it happens at high rpm and when hot. Check that first since it's an easy job.

I'm not really clear about what you said about going from 2nd to 4th .... did you mean it skipped past 3rd?

If the cases need to be split, someone with experience in these matters can chime in (as I have very little).
