hey guys, im trying to restore my vintage 185 back to near original condition. what i cnat figure out is the oil injection. The bike runs great and gets enough oil but at the full open throttle position the bike gets to much oil, it lays a smoke screen down. I have adjusted the pump via the manual but in order to get enough oil and closed throttle and partial throttle the alighnment marks have to be to far advanced, can anyone help me out? is the problem my cable or something else?
also, i have two small dents in my gas-tank that is roughly and inch nad a half in diameter. what is the best way to smooth it out? the torch method using a slide hammer would work but the gas fume worry me. any suggestions?

That pipe will be well full by now of 100 years (well 30) of 2 stroke residue. Find a place that will dip it for you to remove the splutum.
Make sure the airfilter is like new, if it is too rich it will smoke a bit, even though the oil is added independently. As far as the adjustment goes do check the cable isn’t hanging up a bit. They are usually pretty easy to set the pump, but there are a couple of different ways of doing it, like a dimple on the slide, but your manual should sort that out easily enough.

They did give them a bit of oil in those days as many people would run engine oil or whatever they found lying around. If you are using something decent you might back it off a teensy bit.

thanks.....the only unusual thing i noticed was the cable had a bit of a curve formed into it, like the rod that attaches to the arm got stuck at one time and twisted the cable around...but other than that it looks ok, and it seems liek that would afect the lowrange adjustment not really the high range? ......ill look it over again, thanks
-anyone have ideas on the tank, i really dont want to bondo the dents!!!!
