hey guys! new around here! 18 6'4" 170lbs.
might be looking at a 1982 xr200 bike. just something to start out with and beat on. I have a little bike exp.and I'm a hardcore snowmobiler. I ride a 2001 Mxz 800 (2 stroke :) mmmm) so i'm pretty good with power and toys but I need something to keep busy in the offseason.

bike needs a kick start and a front brake cable. I am very mechanically inclined and the guy wants 300 canadian firm. good deal? stuff to look out for? any buying tips or other recomendations?! wouldn't mind a 2 stroke but a 4 will do.

what should i look for when inspecting a bike? I've heard sprokets and chain are a big thing. also what is alot of miles for this bike (engine) ? how often should the oil filter be changed? any thigns too look out for on this model? any idea on the power of this bike or the specs?

thanks in advance everyone!

Find a way to start up the bike and make sure the engine is ok. LIsten for any overly loud noises coming from the top end (valve train problems/loose cam chain), lift the rear end of the bike off the ground and check the bearings in the shock(s) (and linkage if it's a monoshock). Also check for various wear and tear. For $300 I don't think you can go wrong as in very good condition older XR200s can sell for over $1000.
