I have an 83 RM250 and I have read somewhere that adjusting the timing to 16degrees BTC (along with an 82 head) will improve perfomance. I have the head but I was wondering if there is an easy way to adjust the timing without any guage?
yea just loosen the two or three bolts that hold the stator plate to the case and move the notches on the plate to align w/ the one on the case. retarding it will give you more tope-end and more over-rev, while advancing it will give more down low and a bigger hit in the mid. to advance it turn he plate opposite the direction the stator moves and to retard it move the plate w/ the direction at which the flywheel moves.
i really don't get it exact, i just move it around to see how it performs. otherwise i don't know else you could get it exactly 16 degrees to TDC with out a heat gun.
