Hey all - I recently picked up an 84 (I think) KX500. The price was quite right.
I have a billion questions about it, but first and foremost, has some oldschool KX500 weirdo ^H^H^H enthusiast;) put together some site about this thing? I can't find much information about it at all.
Second - it has a twin-plug head. Is this stock? My owner's manual/Clymer (came with it) makes NO mention of a twin plug head. Shrug, weird.
Third - fuel tank. This thing EATS gas. Not a problem, but I'm wondering if it is possible to find a larger tank. I'm sure someone made one sometime ago.
I guess that's it for now. I'm slowly getting it figured out - it has been sitting for a bit, but it runs pretty well. It has some running issues - kinda muddy down low, does not like ANY lugging, get it revved, get it cleaned out, it is quite happy - but frankly, not as strong as I thought it would be; my riding partner's KTM EXC360 is a touch faster (mine has better midrange-top, he pulls away with each shift, I reel him in as it gets back onto it). It supposedly has been bored out, cannot verify.
Re: does not like ANY lugging - no kidding, right? Right, but I mean ANY lugging - I watch the motoguys putter around on their newer 250s and the like, their bikes seem to deal with getting across the parking areas just fine - this thing has one speed: Full.
Lots of questions - will continue to search archives, but hoping that there's something out there that can answer some pretty basic questions about this old dinosaur. Fun dinosaur, I might add.
Thanks for any insights!
