86 cr500

anyone know how much hp a 86 cr500 has? Was one of the best bikes i had wish i still had it. would spank new 4 strokes like it was nothing .

According to Dirt Bike summer shootout special, about 1983 CR480 47.5HP at rear wheel.

i know my 480 is at more than 47.5 to the wheel...they were at 51 stock and i got a .80 over bore in it with a couple other mods...id say its got about 60. i know the 90's 500's put out somthing like 61HP stock...if i had to guess i'd say its somwhere from 55-60.

Good luck riding the 86 500 as fast as the bozos on newer 450's! Other than drag racing. On a track, that newer frame and suspension will walk away. Hence the Service Powersports AF bikes!

Not as big a difference as you'd think.

But, when it came time to race the two bikes, the CR500 wasn’t as outdated on the track as it was on the calendar. The suspension was fairly usable. We think the CRF450 suspension was better, but were shocked that it wasn’t a slam-dunk victory.

Every bit as I thought! And, like I said, drop that 500 engine in a 250f frame. Or, race that 86 in evolution class!

I raced my '80 YZ465 against modern bikes and did well.No podiums but don't podium much with the CRF either.
