I am finally replacing the water pump seals (oil seals) in my KDX after a heinous bout with the flu. I want to upgrade the single seal available stock in the 89 bike to the twin seal in the 90-94 models. My question is what sequence do the two install? I have a manual but it only shows one seal. My intuition would be the wide seal (about 1/2") first (engine side) with the narrower (about 1/8th") on the outside but I want to confirm before installing.
Also, it appears that the gasket is the original one. What a mess!, only about 3'' peeled of somewhat cleanly on just one side. Do you have any advice on how to remove the residual gasket material. The engine is still in the frame and space is really limited on the engine side. Any special tools or techniques?
