I was wondering if it would be possible to get a 96 cr 250 motor into a 125 aluminum frame, and if not it should most likely fit into a 250 aluminum frame, but I was just wondering if it would fit into a 125 aluminum frame?

Considering AJ can put a CR500 engine in to a CR125 frame I don't see the problem......provided you have the skills and tools available. Will it just pop in and everything bolt up? Uh no.

Why? no, go look at a 125 vs 250 frame. No way it just drops in. Just go look at it.

But why would you want to do that anyway? The evolution of that motor (86-01) was the 2000-20001 model year bike. Just go buy one. Or service honda has a new crf250r with a brand new 01 cr250 motor in it called the CR250AF. Go buy one.

If I'm not mistaken, your '96 CR motor should drop right into a '97 - '99 or '00 -'01 CR250R frame.

FWIW, the magazines liked the '00 - '01 better, but the '97 - '99 work well when set up properly.

well since i know the 98 and 99 cr 250 have a one piece radiator and im not sure if any other models have a 1 piece radiator would one of those radiators work for a 96 model motor?

Why would that matter? What exactly are your goals? It might just be easier for you to buy the bike you want.

IT is all plumbing. out of the motor, into the radiator, out of the radiator and into the motor.

But I agree with Pat, WHAT IS THE POINT HERE?

the point is, is that some guy wants to trade his 96 cr 250 for my 99 rm 125, and i wanted to put the motor into an aluminum frame, and if i were to get a 98-99 ( which have a 1piece radiator ) aluminum frame would I be able to put the two piece on it?, or would i have to buy a single piece?

keep the 96 as is. just put the newer 05-08 CRF forks, clamps, front brake and wheel on that bike, then revale/respring the shock as needed. Would be a killer bike!

If you are hell bent on the aluminum frames, the gen 1 97-99s are very rigid. The 00-01s are a much better design and the motor is top notch. Best bet is to sell the bike and then purchase a 00-01 bike wtih the money.

they are telling you that the "weight savings" and effort of putting the old motor into the new frame isn't worth it. You know what fits in a 125 aluminum frame? a cr125 thats meant for a cr125 frame?

If you want a CR250 then buy a CR250 with an aluminum frame. The 01 had the best engine and has an aluminum fame so just get one of those and live happily ever after.

How do you buy gas & oil with no money? GET A JOB! Think about it, if you clear a couple hundred every week or two and you save it you can buy all sorts of things. Turning up a complete bike is going to be easier than just a frame and might be more cost effective. Sure maybe you turn up one with a blown engine but it is still going to cost money to buy it.

I think the real question here is what off the '96 cr250 will fit any of the aluminum frame 250's. I know the motor will bolt up up to '01 but 97 up had diff radiator, exhaust, forks, and I dont know what else. I dont know if you can use all that stuff off the 96. I've got 2 complete '92 cr250's and most of a '97 or '98. I've thought about converting but the forks on the newer one are ruined and its missing the exhaust system. If the '92 exhaust and forks would work on the alum frame then I would prob do the conversion.
