97-03 KX60 Rotor fit on a 96?

Does anyone know what the difference between the magneto rotor for the 97-03 KX 60 is compared to the earlier years (up to 96).
I think it should fit as the crankshaft half is the same for all the years.
I ask because i need one for my 87 KDX80 and the part is the same for the KDX80 and the KX60 (up to '96).
