Looking at a 97' RM 125 for my kid. Nice overall shape, just had new rod and top end (cyl re-plated) and a new clutch. *I know who did the work, so I'm not to worried about that.

Any experience with these bikes? Intended purpose: Kid's next bike (moving up from KX85) we ride recreationally track (35%) and trails (65%.)

i have one, they are nice, but lacks alot of low end for the trails, and i just had a top end redone, jetted perfect. if your gonna be riding trails, i suggest a bigger back sprocket for some more torque low end

I have an 99 RM 250 and has been very reliable, however I just found out the hard way that the RM line from 97 to 00 has an internal water pump. Only bike that did this. Pain in the a$$ when the water pump seal goes as you have to open the motor to get to it. Something to think about

I got the same bike, rite now it has 12/51 gearing, fatty pipe, and a couple other things. I think it has just as good low end as the newer bikes. But you have to watch out for carbon build up around the powervalves. They have been prone to snapping, which mine did. $1000 bucks later...
