Posting this question for a friend.

He recently bought a '99 KX250. Bike fires on 1st kick, motor feels strong, but after warm-up or after riding for short test distance, comes to a stop and it will not idle on its own...it'll just die. Can someone give me some suggestions on what it could be and what needs done to make it idle, etc? Oh, I did try adjusting the idle screw (screw with spring on it) and it didn't change anything. The idle didn't go up or down. Help???? Thanks.

Well, people will tell you that 2 strokes aren't supposed to idle..... but all of mine do ! My 03 kx250 got to where it didn't want to idle and when I'd crank it up it would rev really high and sputter back down till it finally would die. I cleaned the carb (concentrating on pilot jet) and check the seating of your float valve cause mine had a slight bend in the pin that holds it in place keeping it from seating properly. My kx now starts every first kick and idles smooth as silk.......and all day till it runs out of gas if I want it to. Good luck !
