Bryan - I used the Nikon 10.5mm fisheye in the images with distortion. The flat image is using the Nikon 18-200 VR.

I'll have to remember to leave the EXIF info attached in the future. :bang:

Winter scenes in the city don't really do anything for me. It must the knowledge of how much of a PITA snow tends to be. :)

Besides, around here snow looks good for about 10 minutes then it ends up looking gray and dirty, more like this:

Great shots all around. The first ones made me smile...The bridge is awesome... The dirty snowbillboard feels like home...

That one makes me sad. I wasn't expecting that in this mix. :(

Unfortunately yes. Joe "the Birdman" got hit by a truck and was killed on his way home one night. He was a nice old guy and a real fixture in the neighborhood, as evidenced by the little memorial people made at his favorite spot.

One of my all time favorite pictures is one I got of him with his little friends.

Cool shots Rich, sorry to hear about the birdman. I know you like the b+w stuff but any thoughts to some color versions of the graffiti shots? Usually they are so colorful is the reason I ask.

The colors are pretty cool, but for me at least, the "feel" of the scene comes out more clearly in B&W. Maybe it's because it was an overcast day, and the B&W captured the mood better.

I'll post a few and let you guys weigh in. ;)

I was thinking the same way earlier about some color for the graffiti shots. They look great in BW but I almost think to carry their weight they need the color to really show them.

Rich the colors show the true artwork and talent of the "Artists", but the BW show the true urban gritty feel that Chicago so well deserves ;)

Both versions are great in their own element and to me it is a toss up which way I like better

At risk of encouraging Technogeek to continue to see the world through the b & w schematics his mind's eye was suckled on- I'd give approval to both for different reasons.

The B & W "pop". This more than than any of the other graffiti work you've published to date, Rick. It is lush with the sensuality of the heavy black lines-hair eyes, outlines. And yes, urban grit. At risk of overanalyzing, I think the B&W capture the mirth more, as well. Probably completely unintended on your part. But...the colors allow for different textures: the cracks and flakes beneath the flesh paint on the wall, the touches the artist gives- like the color of her fingernails.

All incredibly well captured and worthy of view. Nice. -fats

Man I'd hate to have to chose, there is a definite character to the b&w stuff that is missing in the color shots but I think I'd have to go shot by shot to chose for each individual shot versus the group as a whole.

Doug - That is kind of the way I was leaning. Some of the shots only work for me in B&W, but others have a certain "something" in color. I need to take a close look at the color versions and clean up the post-processing to see what I really have.

I always look at overcast gray days as B&W days, but I'm smart enough to let the picture tell the story the way it wants to. :)

I did a self publish book for the MX track owner's Son. (as a gift) all in all, it was pretty cool in that format. Had two copies made, I kept one.
