Aftermarket for 1992 KDX 200

Hi there

I've been out of a bike for years and really want to get back in it. I had an '88 KDX 200 and my dad had a '93 KDX 250. I've got an opportunity to jump on a good condition '92 for pretty cheap. Unfortunately I'm having a hard time finding parts aftermarket. Should I hold off for a MY95+ for this reason? I'm specifically looking for a pipe and stiffer fork springs. I found the Fatty pipe through Dennis Kirk, are there any other options? If you could get me some links for these parts and others you would recommend as well that would be awesome (RAD valves, etc). Thanks.

If being able to add aftermarket parts is your main concern, then hold off for a 1995 - 2006 model.

On the 1989 - 1994 E series, currently FMF and Pro Circuit offer one pipe, one silencer and one spark arrestor.

For fork springs, Race Tech 3647 springs will work, as well as their 3750 springs or spring kit (two versions).

The KDX200 RAD Valve is for 1989 - 2006 model KDX200's. A few other parts are 1989 - 2006, as well.

Some aftermarket bearing kits are available from PivotWorks.

Wiseco pistons are 1986 - 2006 for KDX200 models.

Cometic, Athena and other companies make gasket kits.

Aftermarket clutch plates are available.

Chains and sprockets are commonly available and the same as 1995 - 2006 models.

Aftermarket air filters are available.

There are other parts as well. You have made me reailze that there are not a ton of aftermarket parts that are available for the 1995 - 2006 models that are not available for the 1989 - 1994 models. Thanks for making me think.

For anyone who fails to think twice and type once, on 1995+ model aftermarket availability, I did mention "a ton" of parts for the newer models. :-)

So it sounds like aftermarket isn't much more of an issue for the '92 as it is for 95+. I have done quite a bit of reading with adapting the XR400 springs, and I did know PC offered a pipe but it is tougher to find. I also like the stock pipe mod...seems very beneficial. I remember the pipe on my '88 was very heavy. Now I know why. Thanks.

DG has a pipe/silencer as well. Check dirtoverstock.com for a good price on them. I'm running the dg on my 89 and couldn't be happier with them. It's much tougher than the FMF or PC pipes.

FRPOffroad can hook you up with an MX style rear fender.

Thank you so much! It doesn't look like that DG silencer is a spark arrestor, so I'd shy away from that. I really appreciate it.

Yeah, the DG is a straight through silencer. You can fit a sparky on it though If you can find one. I run the DG pipe and factory silencer. IMO the factory silencer on the 89-94 is hard to beat. Good performance, and really quiets things down. My buddy has the DG silencer on his 91 and while it's a great unit, and really quiet as well, it does indeed lack the SA.

UPDATE: I made the purchase. I've had the bike for about two months and still haven't ridden. I'm definitely ready, but will probably wait until the snow goes away. Found out later it is actually a '91. Paid $800

Might be a good time to go over all the bearings and clean them up and regrease/replace
