Sunday 12/02/01 I enter my third race ever , it was the GNC regional qualifier at Moiser Valley TX.

I arrived at 6:15am signed in and practice started on schedule at 7:15am. The races started pretty much on schedule at 8:45am.
The track was in great shape and as always the people at Moiser Valley did a great job of running the event.

Lucky for me I had the 5th moto of the day, Originally I did not realize how lucky this was but as the day drug on and on I realized just how lucky I was.

My second moto didn't start until around 3:30pm some 5 1/2 hrs after my first moto ended. By the time I got loaded up and left (forget any trophy I may have had won) I had been at the track for 10 hrs! If I would have had the last moto of the day I belive it was number 30 I wouldn't have gotten out of there until after 9:00pm making it a 15hr day.

Any way, I just want to say that this is by no means a flame against Moiser Valley they did a great job running the races they combined classes where they could and didn't even have an Intermission to try and speed things up.

My Questions:
Why so many Mini and below classes?
Is there anything else that can be done to speed things up?

I understand that everyone wants to win and the track makes money with every entry and Mini rides and below seem to enter multiple classes but I just can't invest that much time in one day to racing. I ride for fun but like the challenge of a race. It gives me something to work toward, but from know on I will just be going to practices.

just race the local weekend races, the smaller tracks with the lighter turnouts. the ones where the guys are racing for fun. at the tracks i race at the most, we are usually done in a few hours and then we can stay and practice. you get the best of both worlds. i very rarely race the "big" races anymore for the very same reasons you described.

You need to do Burleson this weekend, you'll love how quick you can get out of there. There's not any big jumps but the track is fun. I normally run a couple of classes and still get home after an 1 1/2 hour drive before I can get home from the track 15 minutes from my house.

The kids are the future of the sport. I race enduros so I don't have the same problem, I just have to pass them on the trail, .......when I'm racing.:think

I don't really think there is anything that can be done to speed things up.
As far as why all the mini classes. I suppose it would be due to safety and making it ore competitive (remember, these kids want to race and and get trophies and all that the same as you and I do). For instance I suppose they would split up the 50 class like 4-6 year olds, then run 7-8 year olds. Because if you get a 7-8 year old who's been riding/racing for 4 years on a Polini or Cobra or whatever, out on the track with a kid on a lesser bike who's been racing for 1or2 years or less. It could get messy:mad: Most of these little guys don't have the bike skills down (and neither do I and others who are older:confused: ) to avoid lappers who are down, slower or whatever. But I know it makes for a long day. But that's just part of it. Think of it this way. 10 hours at the track. Or 5-8 hours at the track with 2-5 hours at home doing yardwork:think
